What is Electronic Check Services (ECS)?
Electronic Check Services (ECS) provides for the acceptance and conversion of checks from paper items to electronic items processed in a manner similar to credit cards. In addition to the conversion service, merchants are provided with check guarantee or check verification with collection for NSFs. Checks are imaged at the point of processing and processed like credit cards.
Who benefits from ESC?
Face to face merchants that accept checks or can benefit from accepting checks from their customers, and non face to face merchants that receive a relatively large number of checks.

ECS provides for easier deposit reconciliation and eliminates trips to the bank to deposit checks, as well as the administrative burden of back-room check processing.
Verifies or guarantees payment of presented checks to reduce or eliminate the merchant’s check acceptance risk.
